The Lubbock County Jail is charged with the safety and well being of those
individuals whom are committed to the facility and are either awaiting trial,
discharge from a sentence, or transfer to another agency.
The Lubbock County Jail received its last certification of compliance from the
Texas Commission on Jail Standards on September 18, 2009 indicating that
the jail met the minimum jail standards set forth by the commission.
The Lubbock County Jail has a capacity of 795 beds and is staffed with 181
Lubbock County employees. In addition, the Jail employees contractual staff
including medical, kitchen, and commissary personnel. The Jail supervisory
staff is comprised of the Lieutenant, a Sergeant Major,
Captain and Director of Operations. Each shift is staffed with a Sergeant and four Corporals
for supervisory personnel. |

The current qualifications for employment with the Lubbock County Sheriffs Office as
a jailer are as follows:
Be eligible to work legally in the United States
Be of good moral character and have a history of good work habits
Pass a psychological and drug test
All Applications are reviewed to ensure the minimum
requirements have been met. Those requirements are:

Be
at least 21 years of age and; |

B. |
Not
have been arrested for a Class B Misdemeanor offense
in the past (10) years, and has never been convicted
of an offense of Class A Misdemeanor or any Felony,
which includes a sentence of Differed Adjudication. |

Possess
a valid Texas Driver's License. |

D. |
Complete
a Language Skills and Reading Comprehension test. |

E. |
Been
Honorably Discharged from Military Service. |
