SEARCHES: The County Clerk and Staff will not conduct searches that are not authorized by statute. The record search authorized by statute is Federal Tax Liens (Texas Property Code 14.004(d).
The Error & Omissions Insurance of the County Clerk only covers actions of the County Clerk and her staff, which are statutorily required duties. Therefore, it is in the best interest of the county, as well as the clerk individually, to refrain from performing any action (including records searches) which is not legally required.
Attorney General Opinion WW-607 (1959) Summary states: "The County Clerk has no duty to search the records under his control and guarantee the correctness thereof."

***JURY DUTY PHONE SCAM ***
In the past there have been reports of phone calls being made by scammers to residents in several counties throughout the state of Texas that appear to be from county officials. The scammers tell people that they have missed jury duty and are threatening residents with arrest and fines for failing to appear. The scammers tell the victim that they had failed to appear for jury duty and that they would be arrested if the victim did not immediately pay a fine for failure to appear for court and an additional fine for the charge of contempt of court.
The scammer then instructs the victim to provide credit card information to pay the fine, avoiding arrest.
Please be advised that the Lubbock County Courts, District Courts, District Clerk's Office, Jury Administrators, or Sheriff's Office will NEVER call you, text you or email you and ask for social security numbers, credit cards or other sensitive information. We will NEVER demand payment over the phone of a fine for failure to appear for jury service.
