Training

The Dispute Resolution Training InstituteTM (DRTI), a division of the Texas Dispute Resolution SystemTM, conducts affordable alternative dispute resolution (ADR) training for individuals interested in becoming a mediator, arbitrator or other ADR neutral. The DRTI sponsors a variety of training classes ranging from 40-Basic Mediation Training to specific areas such as Family Mediation and Parenting Coordinator. All training programs meet Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) requirements and are approved by the State Bar of Texas. Frequently, these State Bar approved courses are accepted by other professional licensing authorities for their continuing education requirements, through reciprocity with the State Bar. Check with your organization for more information.

The DRTI also develops and conducts specialized training programs to meet the needs of any organization. If you don't see a regularly scheduled training program that meets your needs to schedule, please contact us to discuss our services and how we can assist you in reaching your goals.
To register for a training, you can print out a registration form and either fax, mail, or email it to our office.

In order to become a mediator within our system, you will have to attend the 40-hour Basic Mediation Training (BMT). You will then complete 18 hours of unpaid mediations (like an internship). After completion of 18 hours, you can get paid for some of the mediations that you mediate. After an initial apprenticeship, you will get paid on a per case basis for most of the cases that you mediate for us. To continue to mediate for us, each year you must complete 12 hours of continuing education credits.

To advertise or sponsor a workshop or other training activity, please contact our office at 1-866-329-3522 or at odr@co.lubbock.tx.us to see what opportunities may be available. In order to be put on our mailing list, send an email to odr@co.lubbock.tx.us and please include your name, address, city, state, zip code, phone number, fax number, and also your email address.
