Court Appearances by Telephone (CourtCall)
What is CourtCall?
CourtCall is an organized program allowing attorneys to appear by telephone in certain non-evidentiary pre-trial proceedings. By paying a fixed fee in advance, attorneys may secure a place on the Court's Telephonic Hearing Calendar and make an appearance without leaving their home, office or other convenient location. The fee for this service is $50.00. CourtCall is voluntary and supplements, but does not replace, the regular calendar for those matters requiring personal appearance. All CourtCall appearances should be arranged no later than 3 Court days prior to the hearing.
How does CourtCall work?
Most pre-trial proceedings are conducted through motion dockets. With CourtCall, a lawyer appears by telephone during the motion docket hearing by simply calling the dedicated toll-free teleconference number. The Court calls in as well using state of the art full duplex teleconferencing equipment. After a brief check-in period, the calendar is conducted case by case, just as in personal appearances.
What types of matters can use CourtCall?
The 72nd, 99th, 137th, 140th, 237th, and 364th District Courts, Associate Court and County Court Number One, Two, and Three allow telephonic appearances through CourtCall. Other courts may allow telephonic appearances through CourtCall if the telephonic hearing is set up with the Court Coordinator in advance and accommodations are available in a CourtCall-equipped courtroom for the hearing.
Most non-evidentiary matters such as pre-trial proceedings, motions and status/management conference can be set using CourtCall.
Trials, evidentiary pre-trials and settlement conferences CANNOT be handled through CourtCall, and NO EVIDENCE WILL BE TAKEN ON COURTCALL.
