Criminal
Justice of the Peace courts adjudicate class C misdemeanor criminal cases which are filed in their courts by various state and county agencies which are authorized to write citations, i.e. DPS, Texas Tech Police Department, Sheriff's Department, Constables, Game Wardens and School Attendance officers.
A Justice of the Peace also has magistrate duties on all classes of criminal offences.
